Dr. Roberts is professor emerita at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. She received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and her PhD in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. She also holds a Docteur Honoras Causa from University Paul Cezanne, Aix Marseille III. Karlene’s research is on the design and management of organizations in which errors can have catastrophic consequences. She has published numerous articles in this area. Her most recent publication is Organizing for Reliability: A Guide to Research and Practice (2018) co-edited with Rangaraj Ramanujam. Karlene is a fellow in the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society and the Academy of Management, from which she also received the AOM Practice Impact Award. She has received research grants from (among others) the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Navy, and the California Energy Commission (current).
